Our lives continue as usual, even in winter. That means: we go to work, the children attend school, and on weekends we meet friends. Private and public transportation does not come to a halt, even during the cold season. Of course, there are occasional days when it’s advisable to leave the car at home. Days when storms keep ferries in the harbor or buses in the depot. But by and large, life here goes on as normal.

For travelers, it is easy to rent a car and explore the area on your own. However, you should be prepared to drive on snow and ice throughout your trip. If you can’t reach the speed limit of 80 km/h, that’s perfectly fine. But please remember to let the traffic behind you pass regularly. This rule applies in winter just as in summer. While you’re on vacation, we locals often have appointments we need to keep.

Public transport is also a good option in winter. With the "Reis" app, you can plan your trips and buy tickets directly. Those arriving by plane should fly to Narvik-Harstad-Evenes Airport - Lofoten Airport (Evenes - EVE). From there, bus connections to Vesterålen are available. Alternatively, you can fly to Tromsø, where the Hurtigruten continues to Vesterålen. Here in Sortland, you can also rent cars. However, we are happy to organize transfers from Sortland for our guests.

For train enthusiasts, the Stockholm-Narvik connection is highly recommended. From Narvik, buses continue to Sortland. There are many ways to reach Nyksund, and we are happy to help you plan your journey.
