The winter here in the far north is a time full of powerful nature and fascinating phenomena. From the end of August to the end of March, the night sky displays a spectacle that leaves hardly anyone untouched: the northern lights. These dancing lights in green, pink, and violet illuminate the darkness and captivate us. An experience one never forgets.

From November 18th to January 18th, the polar night welcomes us. But don't worry, it’s not endless darkness. Even on the shortest day, December 21st, Nyksund still gets about five hours of light. These hours invite you to enjoy the crisp, fresh winter air and explore the surroundings without artificial light.

Whether it’s snowstorms or heavy rain, winter holds many surprises. Some days invite peaceful walks through the white landscape, while other times it’s best to sit indoors and watch the wind drive waves against the cliffs. Every weather condition has its own charm.

In summer, the never-ending daylight draws us outside, making it hard to rest. Winter, on the other hand, gives us a time for reflection. It’s an opportunity to pause, feel the silence, and recharge. Here in the north, winter feels like an invitation to focus on what really matters.

Work can also be wonderfully combined with the winter idyll in Nyksund. At Holmvik Brygge, we offer a coworking space, perfect for home office in a unique setting. Outside the summer season, young and older people alike use our workspaces, spending their free time exploring nature. Flexible work and clients across different time zones create a unique rhythm. Nyksund is a village that never sleeps – there’s always a light glowing in some window.

For those who prefer to enjoy the winter in peace, Nyksund is an alternative to the often crowded Lofoten or Tromsø. At the same time, we offer travelers who don’t want to venture into the Arctic winter alone the chance to join guided group tours via travel agencies. Either way – winter in Nyksund is an experience that touches both heart and soul.
